The Black Hat Guide 2015, the UAE’s only rated restaurant guide launches as part of the Dubai Food Festival.

The Black Hat Guide 2015, the UAE’s only rated restaurant guide launched its updated edition last night with a glittering cocktail party at Cargo, Pier 7 in Dubai Marina.

The Black Hat Guide, an annual supplement of the biggest selling entertainment magazine, What’s On, is a coveted restaurant guide featuring over 1,100 Dubai restaurants, all reviewed and rated by the experts at What’s On.

The guide is the must-have accessory for every Dubai foodie, offering advice on where to go for a great dining experience whatever your budget or cuisine preference. It’s the essential guide to eating out in the Emirates.

The updated 2015 version of the guide launched as part of Dubai Food Festival. This years guide features new openings such as the successful Pier 7 development and The Beach on JBR.

Dubai Food Festival is a city-wide culinary celebration that showcases the Emirate’s emergence as a gastronomy destination through a 23-day programme of food-related events, activities, promotions and appearances by food celebrities.

The Black Hat Guide is simple to use, split into three price categories: Dhs750 and above, Dhs250 to Dhs749 and Up to Dhs249. All prices are based on a meal for two, without drinks. The index lists all the restaurants according to the type of cuisine they serve and the area in which they are located so cross-referencing couldn’t be easier.

Restaurants are rated by the trusted What’s On editorial team and hats are awarded to the UAE’s best restaurants. The rating system is based primarily on the quality of the food. However, décor, service and atmosphere are also taken into consideration. The Black Hat is the highest accolade, with a rating of one hat (very good), two hats (excellent) and three hats (exceptional). The quality and sourcing of the ingredients, the level of technical skill displayed, complexity of flavour and level of inventiveness is found only in the best kitchens in Dubai and The Black Hat Guide recognises this. The shaded hat is awarded to restaurants that provide good food at a reasonable price and works on the same principle as does The White Hat, which is awarded to restaurants, cafes, and pubs that provide simple, tasty food on a shoestring.

The guide will be available to buy at selected bookstores, supermarkets, galleries, restaurants and hotels from the beginning of March 2015 alongside the March issue of What’s On magazine.
